To Whom Much Is Given Much Is Expected

•August 3, 2009 • 2 Comments

I remember playing high school football in Brampton Ontario, the only thing that seemed important to me was getting an athletic scholarship. I remember the countless nights before I went to sleep asking god to give me a scholarship, I was so focused and determined at that point in my life. I can honestly say I worked as hard as I could to get a scholarship, but that’s where I stopped working. I spent so much of my life of in pursuit of getting an football scholarship that when I finally got one I thought this is it. I remember when I first came to the University to Houston, I met so many football players with dreams of making it to the NFL; my dream was reached I was at a division 1 school on a full athletic scholarship. I never made any football goals after I received my scholarship and that was my problem, I never had a vision for football after university. Looking back I feel that I did a diservice to myself and to football, I worked but not hard enough, I studied to learn the game and get better but not hard enough. Football has given me so much and in return I didn’t give it much back. I don’t blame anyone but myself for the way my career has played out at UH; if I could do it all again I would do it different. In life though you can’t look back and say what if you can only look forward. I expect a lot from myself this year and I believe that I put in the work to reach those goals. I have been given so much in my life so in ’09 expect S. Williams to go above and beyond the things that is expected of me. ’09 is mine!!!!

It Will Always Take Longer & Cost More

•July 12, 2009 • Leave a Comment

My entrepreneurship journey has been unpredictable to say the least. I started StudentBlitz back in 2007 with a vision of helping student-athletes earn the same privileges that I earned. I believe I have accomplish that to some extent, I helped numerous kids earn scholarships to schools in Canada and America. I felt that I needed to do more, I decided to redesign my website and make it more user friendly.  I started the change at the beginning of the year and it is still not completed. If its not one thing it’s the next, what started out as a small budget project has grown exponentially. Problem after problem vendor after vendor, it is always something. I have spent so much money this far that it would be stupid to turn back. I have hired people who have done a lot so far so it would be unethical to fire them now. I can’t say I was never warned though, as I sat in class at the University of Houston I remember my professors saying it will always take longer & cost more, but I never expected anything like this.

It will always take longer and cost more–Ralph D’Onofrio
